BudgetIQ ("BudgetIQ", "we", "us", or "our") is a budgeting and financial-literacy app built for students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using BudgetIQ or joining our waitlist, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information — such as your name, email address, and password when you create an account or join the waitlist.
- Financial data — when you connect a bank account through our Open Banking provider, we receive transaction history, balances, and account details to power budgeting features.
- Usage data — budgets you create, lessons you complete, streaks, and other activity within the app.
- Device & technical data — device type, operating system, app version, and basic diagnostics.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the BudgetIQ app and its features.
- Generate budgeting insights, lessons, and personalized summaries.
- Communicate with you about updates, security, and support.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, or technical issues.
3. Open Banking & Financial Data
We use regulated third-party Open Banking providers to securely connect to your bank. We access financial data only with your explicit consent and use it solely to deliver the features you request. We never sell your financial data, and you can disconnect a linked account at any time.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the app (such as hosting, analytics, and Open Banking partners), and only as needed to provide the service. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and continually review our practices.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below.
8. Children's Privacy
BudgetIQ is designed to be usable by learners aged 4 and older, including children. We take children's privacy seriously and aim to comply with applicable children's privacy laws, including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including Article 8 on the conditions applicable to children's consent, and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code.
For any user below the applicable age of digital consent in their country (for example, under 13 in the United States, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and UK unless a lower age set by local law applies), an account may only be created and managed by a parent or legal guardian, who must provide verifiable consent before we collect any personal information from the child.
We collect only the information necessary to provide our budgeting and financial-literacy features, we do not use children's information for targeted advertising or profiling, and we do not knowingly permit a child to connect a bank account or use Open Banking features without a parent or guardian's involvement and consent.
Parents and guardians can review, correct, export, or request deletion of their child's information at any time by contacting us at the email below. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate parental or guardian consent, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above.
